‘I brought my whole self to you’

Exploring knit structures inspired by tactility and ceramic forms

Growing up, my mum gave everything she had to me.

We have a connection that is unbreakable yet intangible; an invisible thread that intertwines around us both. A physical manifestation of our relationship can be seen in our collective drive to create 3-dimensional designs, sculptures and forms. This underpins both of our creative practices - hers in ceramics and mine in textiles.

Created during a time of stillness on our lives - the Covid-19 lockdowns of 2020 I craved a sense of connection within my work. By working in tandem with my mum I sought out inspiration in the bulbous forms she sculpted, creating soft knit surfaces that mimicked her ceramics. Creating a mixture of knit fabrics, sculptures and garments this project largely came together through explorations into the technicality of flat-bed knitting.

You brought your whole self to me, so now, let me bring myself to you.
